You want a floor with the exact color you picture, or new wood that matches the floor you already have. Unfinished hardwood is installed raw, then sanded, stained, and sealed right in your home.
Our unfinished hardwood installation in Colorado Springs CO gives you a smooth, flat floor in the color you choose. It’s the classic way to put in a wood floor, and it still gives the most control over the final look.
When You Need Unfinished Hardwood Installation
Unfinished hardwood is the best choice when:
- You’re adding a room and want the new floor to match the old one
- You’re patching into original floors in an older home, like those in the Old North End
- You want a custom stain color you can’t find in a prefinished product
- You want a smooth surface without small grooves between boards, where dirt can collect
- You want one even color and sheen flowing from room to room
Since the whole floor is sanded and finished together, new and old boards come out even. That’s hard to do any other way. As with all hardwood, the boards need time to adjust to Colorado’s dry air before install.
Our Unfinished Hardwood Installation Process
- Let the wood adjust. Boards settle to your home’s air, and we check wood and subfloor moisture.
- Install the boards. We lay the floor on a flat, solid subfloor.
- Sand it flat. Sanding evens out the boards so the floor is smooth from wall to wall. We sand with dustless sanding to keep your home cleaner.
- Pick and apply your stain. We put stain samples on your actual floor so you can approve the color first.
- Seal it. Multiple coats of finish protect the wood. Then it needs time to dry.
This takes longer than prefinished because of the sanding, stain, and drying. We tell you ahead of time which rooms will be off-limits and for how long. We’ll also tell you when it’s safe to move furniture back.
Unfinished Hardwood Installation Cost in Colorado Springs
Price depends on the size of the area, the wood species, and your stain and finish choices. Subfloor prep and blending into an existing floor also affect cost. Blending takes extra sanding and careful color work.
Rooms with lots of angles or closets take a bit more time as well. We’ll explain how many coats of finish we suggest and why. We look at your space, talk through your goals, and give you a free, written quote. The price is clear upfront, with no hidden fees.

Unfinished Hardwood Installation FAQs
Can new hardwood be matched to the original floors in my older home?
Usually, yes. Many older Colorado Springs homes, like those in the Old North End, have oak floors. We install matching wood, then sand and finish the old and new floors together so they blend.
How do I choose a stain color?
We put stain samples right on your new floor so you can see the real color in your own light. Colors look different on different woods and in different rooms, so testing on your floor is the best way to choose.
Does unfinished hardwood take longer to install than prefinished?
Yes. After install, the floor still needs sanding, stain, and several coats of finish, plus drying time. We give you a schedule upfront so you know when each room is off-limits.
Will sanding make a lot of dust in my home?
We sand with dust control in mind to keep your home cleaner. We also cover and protect nearby areas while we work.
